Bernie was a role model and tutor to ILSR going back to the mid-1970s as ILSR first engaged in the waste and recycling world. He was an experienced paper broker who gave time freely to recycling organizations, individual recycling groups and newcomers to the recycling movement. Unit Pricing for Waste in Washington D.C.
Thanks to the persistence of local organizations, Washington D.C. is expected to undertake a pilot study of Save As You Throw (SYT), sometimes called Pay As You Throw (PAYT) or Save Money and Reduce Trash (SMART).
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is required to undertake this task under the 2014 Solid Waste Management Reform Act. Citizen and Environmental groups under the leadership of Global Green’s DC Environmental Network helped secure $100,000 in funding for this project. Nebraska’s Largest Recycler Ends Commercial Single Stream Processing Due to Contamination, Costs
The First Star Recycling Company in Nebraska has halted single stream from commercial participants as of June 1st, 2018. The pressure causing them to end this practice stemmed from new international recycling specifications.
